Yer Bird Records Celebrates Launch of Couch by Couchwest 2012 With Give-away!

To broke to hit SXSW?  Don't want to sleep on the floor after desperately waiting in line to get in to an overfull Austin club to see a band you kind-of like?  Well, you can all go to CXCW and enjoy all the "comforts of home" instead!!  Oh, and CXCW has all your favourite artists within easy "press play" distance and nobody is spilling cheap draft beer on you....well, we can't guarantee that last part...

As we truly enjoy this type of festival so much we had to get involved.  So, for the 2nd annual CXCW fest we are giving away two CD bundles to those participating in a Twitter/Facebook Haiku Contest.  Sound harder than it is, trust us.  Simply visit the contest page HERE for the details to win some free CDs (and probably a few select secret extras thrown in for good measure).

Remember to visit CXCW over the next week and a half for lots of music and good fun.  There will even be some videos showing up from our own Pickering Pick, John Statz, Greater Pacific and possibly a couple more if we can get them off the couch!

Yer Bird Records welcome Tyler Butler!

Today we would like to announce that Edmonton, Alberta's Tyler Butler has joined up with Yer Bird Records to re-release his amazing album "Winter King"!  This album is a special one and a personal favourite around the Yer Bird offices so after seeing him play a show last year and getting to talk to him afterwards, we knew we wanted him on board.

Well, we can now say that he is officially on board and we have a re-release of his album this March.  The album was originally released with the help of Edmonton label Old Ugly Recording Co. and the re-release does include all 8 of the songs from that album.  But it gets better.  Attached to this new version is a re-recording of a local favourite from Butler in 'Feral Horse' plus the never before heard/released album title track, Winter King!

For now, you can visit his pages right her on Yer Bird Records and watch a bit of a teaser for the album that does include audio of the early version of said track Winter King.

Also in conjunction with the album release this March, Tyler is doing a live video of each of the original 8 tracks and they will appear on the newly launched Winter King Website!  Visit today to watch the video for 'Plover'!

Please join us in welcoming Tyler to the fold.

'Old Fashioned' from John Statz, now streaming in full!

Just an update for those waiting on the new John Statz album...it is now streaming on our Bandcamp page

Don't forget you can download the track "Distance" for free while there.  We don't have a pre-order as Bandcamp doesn't allow full album stream alongside a pre-order, but we might find a way around that shorlty, so keep an eye on this space.

How about a sample track?  Listen to "Honest" right here then head over for the full album stream.

December brings some "festive" news in a Greater Pacific release!

We have eluded to this on our Facebook page, but we wanted everyone to be up to speed and know that we are eagerly planning a new release by Greater Pacific!

January 2011 will see a release of a 6 track digital EP from the band that consists of members of the acclaimed Travel By Sea (check them out if you can, highly recommended).  You can feel the connection they have to both projects and the sound of Kyle Kersten's voice and John Phinney's pedal steel will immediately feel like home.

You can check out a little more about them on their artist page (see here) and because it is December, let's start thinking about the season!  Below you will find a nice track recorded by Greater Pacific for just this reason: take a moment and listen to Let It Snow.

"Let It Snow" - Greater Pacific

Enjoy your December everyone!
